Savitri Iyer is a conservative and financially decrepit widow whose rebellious daughter, Leela, ropes her into her beauty queen aspirations despite Savitri's misgivings about the propriety of pageantry. So Savitri gathers up her sari & enlists their cross-dressing servant, Muthu, to help them get pageant-ready. Leela, Muthu and Savitri each transform in different ways as they maneuver the pageant process, and in turn, discover closer bonds and a new meaning of beauty between themselves.
